Community Risk Reduction Services

Community Risk Reduction Services

Overview

Baltimore City Community Risk Reduction Services (CRRS) is a public health measure that implements a harm reduction approach to preventing the transmission of HIV, hepatitis C, other infections, and opioid overdose deaths among people who use drugs. The mission of CRRS is to deliver free and confidential quality HIV prevention and harm reduction education and services in communities within Baltimore City, via mobile and other outreach methods, in a non-judmental manner that reduces the impacts of drug use among high-risk individuals and the general public.

CRRS houses BCHD's Syringe Services Program (SSP) and the Overdose Response/Staying Alive Program. Both program teams collaborate to help Baltimoreans with substance use disorders overcome and manage their addiction. Program services include linking people to drug treatment services, counseling and testing for HIV and syphillis, and opioid overdose response training. SSP services are provided in mobile vehicles at 17 locations totaling 32 shifts per week including evenings and Saturdays.

The vision for Community Risk Reduction Services is to expand the capacity and accessibility to a continuum of comprehensive harm reduction-centered services for all individuals with substance use disorders in Baltimore City, and surrounding jurisdictions.
