Wednesday Jul 20th, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD (July 20, 2016) – Last night, Baltimore City Health Department's Eastern Health Clinic at 620 N Caroline St. experienced a subsequent break-in.
At this time, there is no sign that patient files have been accessed or that protected health information has been compromised. Additionally, all medications are accounted for and there is no indication of additional property theft. The Eastern Clinic experienced two other break-ins earlier this month.
Eastern Clinic remains open and the Baltimore Police Department continues to investigate these incidents.
Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen issued the following statement in response to this latest break-in:
“It saddens and disappoints me that our Eastern Health Clinic has fallen victim to this unprecedented pattern of criminal acts which have disrupted our ability to provide essential health services to Baltimore residents.
“These events are not only disheartening, but traumatic for our staff and patients alike; however my resolve— and that of our entire staff— remains devoted to serving the ongoing needs of our community.
“Following the initial break-in earlier this month, we took immediate steps with our partners at the Baltimore Police Department and Department of General Services, including increased police patrols, increased security presence, and improved security procedures. Unfortunately, there are those who continue to target our city’s most vulnerable.
“We will continue to focus on immediate and long-term solutions to improve security at the Eastern Health Clinic and to diligently provide the physical and emotional safety our staff deserve, while delivering continuity of care for our patients across East Baltimore and throughout the city.
“We will not waiver in our commitment to providing this essential care to Baltimore’s families.”
Anyone with information about these recent break-ins is encouraged to contact the Baltimore Police Department.
