Baltimore City Eastern Health Clinic Experiences Break-In

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (July 11, 2016)– Over the weekend, there was a break-in at Baltimore City Health Department's Eastern Health Clinic at 620 N Caroline St. At this time, there is no indication that patient files have been accessed or protected health information has been compromised; additionally, all medications are accounted for. Officials have reported property damage and stolen items, such as televisions used in the patient waiting room and for training purposes, laptops, and bus tokens for low-income residents.

The Baltimore Police Department is investigating this incident.

Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen issued the following statement in response to the break-in:

“I am extremely disappointed by these events. These actions hurt the very people we serve every day at the Baltimore City Health Department.

“From providing HIV/AIDS care and tuberculosis treatment, to childhood immunizations, dental care, family planning, STD prevention and more, our clinics provide critical services for many of our most vulnerable residents, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.

“We are committed to resuming operations as quickly as possible to ensure continuity of care to our patients across East Baltimore and throughout the city.”

Eastern Clinic is currently expected to re-open tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12, 2016.

Anyone with information about the break-in is encouraged to contact the Baltimore Police Department.
