Baltimore City Health Department Confirms Raccoon Found at Fallstaff Elementary Middle School Tested Positive for Rabies

BALTIMORE, MD (October 15, 2025) — On Wednesday, October 15, the Baltimore City Health Department Animal Control unit was notified that a raccoon captured from Fallstaff Elementary Middle School tested positive for rabies. 

Baltimore City Health Department to Relocate Some Druid Health Center Services in October

BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, September 29, 2025) – The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) announced that the Druid Health Center located in West Baltimore, will relocate some services starting Tuesday, October 14 to Total Health Care (1501 W. Saratoga Street). While BCHD remains committed to serving clients in West Baltimore, long-standing facility issues in some areas of the Druid Health Center have led to this partial relocation, despite extensive maintenance efforts over the years.  

Code Red Extreme Heat Alert Extended for Second Time Due to Ongoing Dangerous Temperatures

BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, July 30, 2025) – In response to the continued extreme heat impacting the City, the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) is extending its Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for a second time through Thursday, July 31. This extension comes as daily high temperatures persist above 100 degrees, with high humidity and overnight lows providing little relief.   

Code Red Extreme Heat Alert Extended through Wednesday

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, July 29, 2025) – Due to continued dangerously high temperatures and high humidity, the Baltimore City Health Department has extended its Code Red Extreme Heat Alert through Wednesday, July 30. The alert, initially set to expire on Tuesday, July 29, is now extended to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, particularly vulnerable populations.

Code Red Extreme Heat Alert Declared for Tuesday, July 8th

BALTIMORE, MD (Monday, July 7, 2025) – With temperatures expected to rise in the Baltimore region, the heat index is forecasted to exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, July 8, Baltimore City Interim Commissioner of Health Mary Beth Haller has issued a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert. The alert signals dangerously high temperatures and humidity levels that pose a serious risk to health and safety, especially for vulnerable adults, children, and those working outdoors.  

TODAY: Health Department Announces Additional Cooling Centers in Response to Escalating Heat Index for Tuesday, June 24

BALTIMORE, MD (Tuesday, June 24, 2025) – As temperatures continue to rise and the heat index escalates, Baltimore City remains under a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert through Thursday, June 26th. With today's heat index expected to exceed 110 degrees, additional cooling centers will be available across the City for those seeking relief from the heat.  

Interim Health Commissioner Declares First Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for Sunday, June 22nd Through Thursday, June 26th

BALTIMORE, MD (Friday, June 20, 2025) – With temperatures expected to rise in the Baltimore region and the heat index forecasted to reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for multiple days starting Sunday, June 22nd, the Baltimore City Interim Commissioner of Health Mary Beth Haller has declared a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for Sunday, 22nd through Thursday, June 26th. The heat index is a measure of air temperature and relative humidity and indicates how hot it feels to the human body.  

 

 

Baltimore City Health Department Announces Start of Code Red Extreme Heat Season

BALTIMORE, MD (Thursday, May 15, 2025) – Today, the Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) announced the start of Baltimore City’s Code Red Extreme Heat season, which runs from May 15th to September 15th. The Code Red Extreme Heat Program is a collaboration across multiple agencies and community partners to address the effects of extreme heat on the residents of Baltimore City.
