Baltimore, Rhode Island leading petition of FDA for prescription opioid warning labels

Baltimore City Health Department is leading 13 cities and 17 states and U.S. territories in petitioning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to add warning labels to prescription opioids and benzodiazepines, which can be lethal when combined.
The coalition, led by Baltimore and Rhode Island, wants the FDA to add a black box warning label to the two medications, both which reduce patients’ respiratory rate and, when taken concurrently, can cause a patient to stop breathing entirely.
