Note from the Acting Commissioner: Let's Get Moving!

Dr. Dzirasa

As the weather warms and the days become longer, it is a perfect time to begin to plan outdoor activities and take advantage of the many beautiful attractions, spring festivals, recreation centers, and walking and biking trails in our City.  Last year, hundreds of City residents walked over a billion steps as part of our Billion Step Challenge.  As Health Commissioner, I’m renewing BCHD’s commitment to increasing physical activity and reducing the rate of obesity in our City.

Physical activity and exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Consistent exercise prevents and controls weight gain, combats chronic diseases such as heart disease, improves mood, boosts energy, and promotes sleep.  It is a key ingredient in a healthy lifestyle and plays a major role in our fight against health disparities.

I encourage you to gather your family, friends, and neighbors to get active! Every minute of movement can make a difference in your health.

I look forward to seeing you out and about this spring.

Letitia Dzirasa, MD.

Acting Commissioner of Health
