Mayor’s Heroin Treatment and Prevention Task Force Recommendations Released

The Mayor’s Heroin Treatment and Prevention Task Force today called for 10 bold steps to attack the city’s epidemic heroin and opioid addiction problem, including having 24/7 “treatment on demand” for substance users and a public education campaign to encourage treatment and combat stigma. Convened by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake in October 2014, the Task Force was co-chaired by Bernard J. McBride, CEO Behavioral Health System Baltimore, and Dr. Samuel Ross, CEO of Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, and was comprised of 35 community leaders, public health experts and government representatives.

Health Department Announces “B’more Health Talks” Biweekly Community Forums

The Baltimore City Health Department announces its new “B’more Health Talks” initiative, a biweekly community forum being held via phone call-in to discuss citywide health issues such as reducing health disparities.  The forums will be held the second and fourth Friday of each month at 12:30 pm, starting this Friday, July 10.

B’more Health Talks is designed to be interactive, will be hosted by Health Commissioner Dr. Leana Wen, and will include guests on each show. Among its goals are to share and collaborate around the work that many different organizations in Baltimore are doing and align around #OneBaltimore efforts.

Shuttle Service to Wal-Mart and Supermarkets

The Baltimore City Health Department announces a revised schedule for the free shuttle service from 10 residential buildings in areas impacted by the recent civil unrest to a WalMart and supermarkets, ensuring that residents have access to food and other daily necessities. The shuttle service will operate Monday – Friday during the month of May, with pickups at 930 am & 1:30 pm. The shuttle schedule can be found below.

Trauma & Mental Health Resources

The Baltimore City Health Department is committed to ensuring that communities impacted by the recent tragic events in Baltimore have access to needed trauma counseling and mental health services. As part of the City’s response to these tragic events, BCHD is working with schools, churches and community organizations to provide mental health services to impacted communities. We are also providing this FAQ on Trauma and Mental Health for the public.

Druid Health Center Closed - Wednesday, April 29

The Druid Health Center will be closed on Wednesday, April 29.  Clinical services will be available at the Eastern Health Center, 620 N. Caroline Street.

Operational Changes for Tuesday, April 28

The Baltimore City Health Department is making several operational changes today.

• WIC sites will close at 12 pm.
• All Senior Centers will be closed today. 
• Druid Health Center is closed. Eastern Health Center will close at noon (12pm) today.
• Field Health Services will be providing only life-sustaining medical transports such as chemotherapy and dialysis.

Program Changes On Tuesday - Inclement Weather

Due to the inclement weather on Tuesday:

  • Medical Assistance Transportation services for Baltimore City will be operating for dialysis, chemotherapy, and radiation transports only.  For more information call 410-396-7007 or to reschedule call 410-396-6422.
  • The Needle Exchange Program will be  working from the vans outside of the office at 2300 Garrison Blvd and not traveling to Tuesday mobile sites. Clients can call 410-396-3731 with questions.
  • City WIC clinics will be opening at 10:30 a.m.  Call 410-396-9427 with any questions.
