Baltimore Residents Support Cutting Health Disparities

In April 2017, BCHD participated in Mayor Pugh’s Open City Hall initiative for resident feedback through the online survey “Health Equity in Baltimore’s Communities.” We asked eight questions about health, social justice, and our programming in the city to better understand residents’ concerns and priorities.

Residents expressed support for taking a health-in-all-policies approach to address disparities across neighborhoods in the city. Respondents overwhelmingly agreed that it is unacceptable for a 20-year difference in life expectancy depending on the neighborhood in which a child was born.

Most respondents strongly agreed that programs addressing infant health, violence, substance use and addiction, mental health and trauma, and environmental health, should be main priorities to improve health and wellbeing in the city.

We will continue to implement this feedback by including residents in our Community Conversations and Healthy Baltimore 2020 plan to cut health disparities in half over the next ten years.
